Big Brother Naija (BBNaija): Origin And The Journey So Far

Big Brother Naija, was formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria. Is a popular Nigerian reality competition television series, based on the Big Brother television franchise where contestants are made to live in secluded house, by avoiding eviction from the house through  competitive votes from viewers.

The winner of this competition, favourite housemate who made it to the end of the show goes home with fabulous amount of money and other prizes.

 

The 2023 edition of the BBNaija, Season 6 tagged: Shine Ya Eye has a whopping sum of Ninety Million for the eventual winner.

 

The first season of the show came up on M-Net and DStv Channel 37 from 5 March to 4 June 2006. Two new contestants were added on day 23. They were well received with jubilation by the remaining housemates. The voting results were verified by the auditing company of Alexander-Forbes.

 

The show was full of fun. Ebuka, who was widely adjudged the most popular housemate for several weeks into show and widely believed to emerge the winner was evicted, bringing him the seventh housemate to be evicted at the time.

 

Day 79 was another remarkable day as Big Brother added another two housemates by cancelling the day’s scheduled nominations and making the housemates believe they will instead be evicted based on their performances on assigned tasks while in reality, no more evictions were held.

In the end, a 26-year-old Katung Aduwak emerged winner.

 

Season 2 of Big Brother Nigeria titled: Big Brother Naija premiered 11 years after the first season on 22 January 2017. The organizers improved on their show as Efe Ejeba from Delta State emerged winner of the second season in 2017.

 

Big Brother Nigeria Season 3 came up with lots of activities. It was entitled ‘Big Brother Naija’ premiered on 28 January 2018. Miracle Igbokwe from Imo State emerged winner of the third season in 2018.

 

Season 4 of Big Brother Nigeria, tagged: Big Brother Naija, unlike previous years was staged in Lagos, Nigeria. The show premiered on 30 June 2019 with 21 housemates entered the house and additional 5 more housemates also made the list a month later.

Multichoice announced in March 2019 that it would broadcast the show on DSTV channel 198 and Gotv channel 12.

 

Mercy Eke of an Igbo decent became the winner of the fourth season and the first female to be crowned in the big competition in Nigeria. She went home with a fabulous sum of ₦60 million worth of prizes.

 

Season 5 of Big Brother Nigeria also coined  Big Brother Naija. The show which lasted 71 days premiered on 19 July 2020 with 20 housemates.

Olamilekan “Laycon” Agbeleshe was crowned the winner of the fifth season. He received ₦85 million worth of prizes.

 

Season 6 of the Big Brother Naija, tagged ‘Shine Ya Eye’ unlike the previous ones, has a double premiere on 24 July 2023 and 25 July 2023 with 22 housemates respectively. Four new housemates were added to the game on Day 14.

So far, the competition is full of fun and winner will take home a big sum of N90 Million Naira.

 

In summary, Big Brother Naija has come to stay, a show adjudged one of the biggest competition in the whole of African continent. Is an entertainment hub where talents are discovered and influenced greatly.
