Omawumi, popularly known as her stage name, is a beautiful, skillful and highly talented Nigerian singer who rose to music fame after the MTN Project fame in 2007.
Born in April 13, 1982 in Delta State Nigeria, she is an Itsekiri ethnic nationality and a daughter to Mrs. Aya Megbele (her mother) and Chief Dr. Frank as father.
Omawumi had her primary education at Nana and College of Education Demonstration School in Delta State and later proceeded to have a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Edo State in 2005.
As a lawyer by profession, we learnt she actually started her legal profession in Port Harcourt in a family Law firm called O.S. Megbele & Associates. It was in course of her profession, she had a breakthrough in music during the 2007 West Africa Idols competition which brought her up as among the best and thus emerged the runner-up of the highly competitive show.
She is currently making it big in the field of music and impressing her numerous fans.
Today, Omawumi has abandoned the prestigious legal profession for music. Since her emergence in the industry, the Afro-pop singer is doing well and very comfortable with her adventurous career choice.
Again, she has within her shortest time in the line of music career recorded a number of achievements.
Her contribution to the growth and development of music in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized. Her song “Butterflies” won her nomination and an award which she received at the 2018 Headies.
