MzVee: Biography, Songs, Achievements And Net Worth

MzVee has her real name as Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda. She is a popular Ghanaian singer, Afropop, Dancehall and R&B artiste who has produced several hit singles including ‘Borkor Borkor’ (meaning – Slowly), ‘Natural Girl’ and ‘Dancehall Queen’.

MzVee was born on June 23 1992 in South La Estates, Accra Ghana to the family of Ernest Hamenoo-Kpeda, a businessman, and Florence Hamenoo-Kpeda, a caterer. She has two elder sisters and a brother.

 

MzVee’s Educational Background

MzVee had her primary and secondary education at St Martin de Porres School and St. Mary’s Girls’ Senior High School, both in Accra Ghana, respectively.

She later studied at Business Administration at Ghana Telecom University.

MzVee’s Music Career

MzVee made her entry into the Ghanaian music scene in the summer of 2012 as the lead singer of Lynx Entertainment’s girl band D3.

The band released hit singles such as ‘Good Girls Gone Bad’ and ‘Gyani Gyani’ before splitting at the end of 2013 due to educational commitments of the young group members.

In January 2014, MzVee launched her solo career with debut single ‘Borkor Borkor’. This was followed by another hit single, ‘Natural Girl’, a song that was very successful and earned her ‘Unsung Artiste Award’ at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards.

‘Natural Girl’ has been described by many as a source of  inspiration to young girls across Africa who want to celebrate their natural look.

Her debut album was released in November 2014 and features collaborations with several award-winning artistes such as Stonebwoy, VIP, Shatta Wale, Richie Mensah, M.anifest and Didier Awadi.

The beautiful and talented award-winning music star released her second album titled Verified in November 2015 to rave reviews.

The album was another success as she got 7 nominations at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards including ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year’ for the single ‘Abofra’ respectively. The album also featured another Ghanaian music icon, Efya.

In October 2015, MzVee was appointed the World Bank Ambassador for her song, ‘End Extreme Poverty Campaign’. The exotic position was held in the past by music giants, D’Banj and Fally Ipupa.

MzVee later released her third album in May 2017 before she went on a two year break from the music industry.

In an interview, the music superstar revealed that she went on break because she suffered untold depression which was contrary to the wide rumour that she was pregnant. She added that the period was really tough for her but for her friend, Efya who supported and encouraged her until she got over it.

MzVee has since 2020 returned to the music industry with much vigor and determination and has so far released a good number of albums including ‘Inveencible’, which featured top music icons like Sarkodie, Mugeez, Efya, Medikal, Kelvyn Boy, Kojo Funds, as well as Falz and Navy Kenzoo, was released on December 11, 2020.

In March 2023, MzVee partnered with Trace TV to release her music video for her song ‘You Alone’.

MzVee also made the list of MTV Base’s list of the top African artists to watch out for in 2016 and several awards.
