LYD is his professional name, but has his real name as Lloyd Chikezie Achonye. He is a popular and talented Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter.

He was born February 6, 1996 in Aba, Abia State. LYD hails from Imo State in south eastern Nigeria. He grew up in Abia and Imo States where he had his primary and secondary education respectively.

Nothing much is known about his educational background. We however believe that emerging winner at the Abia State Polytechnic is a confirmation that he graduated from the institution.

 

LYD’s Music Career

LYD started off in his music career as a rapper, dated back to his days in the secondary school when he used to entertain his friends and fans at various events.

He became professionally known in music scene in 2015 when he had his demo recorded which was well accepted by many music lovers.

To further consolidate his stand in the music space, he emerged winner for Best Rapper Awards in a music competition at the Abia State Polytechnic in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

LYD has a fine look, very creative and talented young music star. He has performed in different stages and shows across Aba, where he clearly demonstrated his talents in music.

He went ahead to win one of the controversial Best Rap Competition in Aba, Abia State, which shot him to the top ladder in his music profession as the best emcee coming out of the Southeastern part of Nigeria.

In 2016, ‘Wetin U Get’, a renowned rap talent show in Aba, was another music platform the reigning rap artist LYD proved himself, as he emerged one of the top finalists in the competition.

The young talented rapper, though widely celebrated at the time, never had a released song, but was busy performing in numerous shows and events and garnering large fan base across Abia State and Nigeria at large.

In 2023, LYD released his first-ever official single, ‘Okocha’. The single was termed a tune of his mixtape, which was titled 602 Vol. 1.

602 Mixtape was made up of nine tracks and had notable features and covers. It was released in the same 2023.

The 602 Mixtape opened the way for several hits, including 602 (Intro), Okocha, End SARS (Omah Lay‘s Bad influence cover) and many others.

The widely celebrated rapper however took his fans by surprise with the world-famous collaboration with Headies Awards-winning rapper, Terry Tha Rapman. The song was titled PruhBlem, which has received wide airplay across several radio and television stations in Nigeria.

LYD is not yet married, perhaps in a relationship which has not come to the public domain.

From all indications, he is more focused and determined in making it bigger and winning more laurels in his music career.
