Starting a business with little or no capital can be challenging, but there are several viable options in Nigeria that require minimal startup costs and have the potential for profitability.

This post brings out viable alternatives in a simple language we can do with little or no money that will catapult us to greatness.

Here are five good business ideas:

Freelancing and Digital Services

What It Involves: Offering services such as graphic design, writing, social media management, web development, or virtual assistance.

Why It’s Profitable: The global demand for digital services is high, and you can start with just a computer and internet connection. Websites like Upwork, Fiverr, and LinkedIn can help you find clients.

How to Start: Identify your skills, create a professional profile on freelancing platforms, and start pitching your services to potential clients. Initially, you may need to offer competitive rates to build a portfolio and get reviews.

Dropshipping and E-commerce

What It Involves: Selling products online without holding inventory. You create an online store and partner with suppliers who ship the products directly to customers when an order is placed.

Why It’s Profitable: Low startup cost since you don’t need to purchase inventory upfront. You only pay for a product when a customer orders it. With platforms like Shopify, Jumia, and Konga, setting up an online store has become easier.

How to Start: Research and choose a niche, set up an e-commerce website or use online marketplaces, and partner with reliable suppliers. Focus on marketing your store through social media and search engine optimization to attract customers.

Agricultural Produce Trading

What It Involves: Buying agricultural products directly from farmers and selling them to consumers or retailers in urban areas. Examples include fruits, vegetables, grains, and spices.

Why It’s Profitable: Agriculture is a vital sector in Nigeria, and there’s always a demand for fresh produce. By buying directly from farmers, you can get products at lower prices and sell at a markup in the cities.

How to Start: Start with a specific type of produce that has a high turnover and is easy to transport. Build relationships with farmers, understand the market prices, and find reliable buyers. Starting with small quantities reduces risk and helps you learn the business dynamics.

Tutoring and Educational Services

What It Involves: Offering tutoring services to students in subjects like mathematics, English, science, or preparing them for exams like WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and SAT. You can also teach skills such as computer literacy, coding, or public speaking.

Why It’s Profitable: Education is highly valued in Nigeria, and many parents are willing to pay for extra lessons to help their children excel. Additionally, there is a growing market for online learning and skill acquisition.

How to Start: Identify your area of expertise, and decide whether you want to offer in-person or online tutoring. Advertise your services through social media, word of mouth, or by distributing flyers in your local community. You can also use platforms like WhatsApp, Zoom, or Google Meet to conduct online sessions.

Mobile Food or Snack Business

What It Involves: Preparing and selling food or snacks such as akara (bean cakes), puff-puff, roasted plantains (boli), roasted corn, grilled chicken, or even packaged snacks like chin-chin. This can be done from a cart or a small stand in busy areas.

Why It’s Profitable: The demand for convenient, ready-to-eat food is high, especially in urban areas with a lot of foot traffic. With good quality and hygiene standards, you can attract a steady stream of customers.

How to Start: Begin by choosing a popular snack or food item and learn how to make it well. Source your ingredients from local markets to keep costs low. Start by selling in a strategic location with high foot traffic, like near schools, offices, bus stops, or markets. Ensure you maintain high hygiene standards to build a good reputation.

Tips for Success

Market Research: Understand your target audience and their needs. This will help you tailor your products or services to meet market demand.

Cost Management: Keep your initial costs low by starting small and gradually expanding as you generate more revenue.

Build a Strong Reputation: Focus on providing quality products or services and excellent customer service to encourage repeat business and referrals.

Leverage Technology: Use social media and online platforms to market your services or products.

Network: Build a network of contacts who can refer clients or provide valuable business advice.

Start Small and Scale Up: Begin with a manageable size and gradually reinvest your profits to grow the business.

In summary, it is important to note that these business ideas are practical and can be scaled up with time and effort. They also tap into everyday needs and services that are always in demand, providing a solid foundation for starting a small business in Nigeria.

These business ideas leverage skills, market needs, and technology, allowing you to start with minimal financial investment.

The civil service is the body responsible for the implementation of government policies and programmes. It performs mainly administrative and executive function that has to do with the formulation and implementation of the policies and programmes of the government (Edeh, 2020). From time to time, the Nigerian government comes up with policies in the sphere of health, education, water and roads that the civil service is expected to implement. This is to ensure improvement in the people’s living conditions and also promote socio political and economic development of the country.

In summary, it is important to note that in achieving increase in salary of civil servants, promotional examinations, long years of service and high academic excellence are the needed factors for elevation in the civil service.

It is also recommended that the government should consider introducing a merit-based pay system that rewards performance and productivity. This can help to motivate workers to improve their performance and contribute positively to the development of the country.

The payment system should be decentralized to reduce the bottlenecks and bureaucracy associated with payment of salaries. This can help to ensure that salaries are paid promptly and accurately. Automation of payment system:

The government should consider automating the payment system to reduce human errors and eliminate the incidence of ghost workers. This can help to improve transparency and accountability in the payment system.

The government should ensure that the budgetary allocation for salaries and remuneration is adequate to meet the needs of workers. This can help to reduce the incidence of unpaid salaries and promote job security.

Harmonization of salary structure: The government should harmonize the salary structure across all levels of the civil service to promote equity and reduce disparity.

This can help to boost the morale of workers and promote a sense of belonging. The government should collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including labor unions and civil society organizations, to address the challenges facing the remuneration and salary system in the Federal Civil Service.

Approval of minimum wage for Federal Civil Service Commission will no doubt improve efficiency, high productivity and general wellbeing of all Civil Servants in Nigeria.

A million thanks for your time, reading about Federal Civil Service Commission Salary Scale and Structure 2023. Your comments will be appreciated.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is a Federal law enforcement agency in Nigeria under the Federal Ministry of Justice Nigeria charged with the responsibility of eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting and trafficking of hard drugs.

The NDLEA also targets the leaders of narcotics and money laundering organizations.

The agency was established by Decree Number 48 of 1989 and are attached to Nigerian International airports, Seaports and border crossings.

In this post, we shall bring you the hierarchical structure of officers in the various levels and their salaries.

How Much Does The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Pay Their Staff in Nigeria Monthly?

NDLEA salary structure, just like other ranks in the Nigerian military and para-military like the Police, Navy, Army, Airforce, Customs, and FRSC have an organized chain of command.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has a set of rules to determine how much staff members will get paid based on their grade level, years in service, and position held.

Some of them include:

NDLEA Salary Structure

NDLEA Salary Scale

NDLEA Monthly Salary

How much does NDLEA pay their Staff?

How much does NDLEA Pay HND Holder

How much does NDLEA Pay B.Sc Holder

NDLEA Salary Structure in Nigeria 2023

The NDLEA salary structure is solely based on the level of your ranking, amount that corresponds with the Consolidated Para-Military Salary Structure (CONPASS).

NDLEA graduates earn an annual salary of about ₦888,956 before deductions, which is about ₦74,000 per month.

Those who make it to the Grade Level 8 Step 2 earn about ₦900,071 per annum (before deductions). That’s about ₦75,000 monthly.

NDLEA employees who are placed on Grade Level 7 Step 1 earn about ₦483,353 per month (before deductions).

An in-house report revealed that most Nigerian counterparts in the same rank with NDLEA officers get at least 50% less. For instance, if a Nigerian Police Sergeant earns around ₦50,000 per month and NDLEA Nigerian sergeant earns as much as N75,000 Naira monthly for doing a similar job. This goes to show that NDLEA officers receive good pay for their services.

It’s also important to note that NDLEA employees enjoy other benefits, but these benefits are determined by the employee’s rank and status within the department.

Benefits of Working With NDLEA

Aside good salary of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, there are many other advantages of working for the NDLEA.

One of such benefits is the convenience of a flexible schedule. Since the majority of the work is fieldwork, you will have enough time each day to relax and attend to your personal affairs.

Another benefit is that NDLEA officers personnel get more sick days than private employees. The Public sector gives its employees or personnel holidays twice a year, unlike most agencies or departments.

Another benefit of being an NDLEA employee is stability of the job. Yes! You do not have to be worried about job instability as long as you do not engage in any criminal acts that are against the organization’s policy.

Finally, salaries of NDLEA employees are guaranteed. This means that in case or cases of instability in government or financial mismanagement or embezzlement, its officers and personnel’s salaries must be paid by the government. Salary payments are made on a monthly basis and are usually made on time. There is likelihood of slight increase of N35,000 pay rise announced by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Thanks for your time reading about NDLEA’s salary structure 2023. Your comments are welcome.
