Owie Abutu is a popular Nigerian gospel artiste who has made significant success in the industry.

He was born in Kaduna State to the family of Mr and Mrs Samuel Abutu. Date and year of his birth are not known. He is the first son in the family and grew up in the middle belt of Otukpo in Benue state.

 

Educational Background

Owie Abutu did his primary and secondary education in Otukpo, Benue State respectively.

He later went to the University of Maiduguri where he obtained first degree in Public Administration and MSC holder from the Benue State University.

 His Career

Owie’s journey into the gospel music began some years back in a Methodist Church in Otukpo, thrilling his numerous fans, spreading the gospel and winning souls with his beautiful kind of music.

He is also a teacher, human developer, consultant in capacity building and a motivator. He has released a good number of good gospel songs which have brought him to limelight in the industry.

He is a young gospel singer, very passionate and doing exceeding well in the industry.

The talented gospel star recently released a hit album, “Pages of My Heart”. The song is very successful, with people trooping into music stores to grab a copy of the mind blowing album which was diligently put together with sincerity in worship and letting God’s presence prevail.

The highly gifted and versatile singer launched a foundation known as Developing People Initiative (DPI). It is a platform for the development of African children, especially rural children who do not have access to basic live need and education.

His Private Life

Owie Abutu is happily married to the love of his life, Ojima and they are blessed with a son, named Deivan.

He revealed an incident where he had encounter with death as a 300 level student in the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to Abutu, he was accused of tearing the Holy Quran by some Muslim guys in 2007, but the God delivered him. “I remember a scenario that happened to me as a third year student in the University of Maiduguri in 2007.  I was going to write exam around 2pm and 10 Muslim guys accosted me with knives, dagger and other dangerous weapons.  They surrounded me and claimed that they saw me tearing the Holy Quran.  As they were talking, Quran was tore before me both right left and centre:,

“They were ready to slay me over a crime I committed not. As they were talking, two other guys on motorbike ran into them and said, ‘leave him alone.’ As they were talking scriptures started running through my head. I began to say, “Even the lawful captive shall be set free and even them that are appointed for death shall be delivered”.

Abutu concluded that “In my very eyes, the 500 level student of the Sharia Law who led the gang began to apologise”.
