Dolly Unachukwu has her birth name as Dolly Nchedo Nkem Unachukwu. She is a talented actress, writer, producer and director and one of the pioneers of Nollywood.

Dolly was born on November 1, 1969 in Lagos. She hails from Amichi in Anambra State. Dolly is one of seven children in a family.

 

 

Dolly’s Educational Background

Unachukwu is a graduate of Films and Videos at the East London University Docklands in 2008. Prior to the degree programme, she got the European Computer Driving Licence in 2002.

Unachukwu also attended the Television College Jos in Plateau State, where she received a Diploma in Television Production in 1988.
She studied phonetics at the FRCN Training school Lagos in 1989 and later had a Diploma in Law at the Lagos State University in 1990.

Dolly Unachukwu’s Acting Career

Unachukwu began her acting career at the age of 16 during which she featured in a television programme Junior Drama in 1985 as a secretary.
Later that year, Dolly starred in the prime time soap opera, ‘Mirror in the Sun’ as Prisca.

Dolly was shot to fame and recognition in Nollywood when she featured in a movie, ‘Fortunes’, a hit movie she played the role of Fadeke the subdued wife of a millionaire, an ideal Nigerian woman. The movie made her a household name in the Nigerian movie industry.

Unachukwu made her debut in films with her performances in ‘Deadly Affair’, where she featured alongside Nollywood veterans like Emeka Ike, Sandra Achums and Jide Kosoko. In the movie, she Spoke three different Nigerian languages.
Unachukwu also played a mean pimp in the controversial film Glamour Girls, a film that later won the most popular Nigerian film in America in 1995.

In 1997, Unachukwu produced her life story, Wildest Dream. In the film, she narrated the ordeal of her first marriage, which crashed the rock in 1994, making her a single parent. Her estranged husband threatened to sue her over using his real name in the film.

Unachukwu was said to have remarried in 2000 and in August the same year, she went to join her husband in England, only to split up with him at the airport upon realizing that he had not been all that truthful to her.
