The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a new name for the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
The national edifice, also widely referred to as the Pride of the nation
is currently undergoing rehabilitation will be known as Lagos Creative and Entertainment Centre upon completion.
This was disclosed by the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed on Tuesday in Madrid, Spain, NAN reports.
Lai Mohammed signed agreement on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria on hosting the Global Conference on Cultural Tourism and Creative Industry, slated for November 14 to November 17, 2022 and the event would be staged at the newly refurbished edifice.
The Minister went further to state that hubs are being constructed within the premises for fashion, information, technology, film and music.
He also added that the Lagos surface rail system will serve the National Theatre and this development will be commissioned ahead of the conference.
The renovation costs, information gathered, was put at $100 million to be executed under a joint partnership between the Federal Government and the Bankers’ Committee/Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This development, no doubt will serve as a boost to the country’s entertainment industry which is already topping the position as one of the largest and most entertaining in the World.
