Takeoff: Biography, Songs, Controversies, His Death And Net Worth

Kirshnik Khari Ball is his real name, but widely and professionally known as Takeoff. He is a famous American rap artiste and member of the hip hop Migos includinig Quavoa and Offset.

He was born June 18, 1994 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, United States of America. Takeoff was one of the three members of Migos raised by Quavo’s mother and Offset respectively.

The trio teamed up to form a hip hop group called Polo in 2008, which they later changed to Migos, because according to them, Polo Club was a generic name.

Migos was therefore created to promote trap music, with huge returns on streams and downloads on the internet.

 

Takeoff’s Educational Background

Takeoff, like Quavo and Offset that made the Migos group, had his basic education at his hometown in Lawrenceville, Georgia, which of course was the apex of his educational background.

He however made a full career in his long time dream music as a rapper at a young age. Takeoff was also known to have been involved in various juvenile cases while growing up. That not withstanding, he was determined to make it big in his rap music talent, alongside Quavo and Offset.

Takeoff’s Music Career

Takeoff began rapping in 2008 alongside Quavo and Offset. The group initially performed under the stage name Polo Club, but eventually changed their name to Migos which to them, the name Polo was too generic.

The group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season, on August 25, 2011. This was followed with the mixtape, ‘No Label’ on June 1, 2012.

The group was shot to limelight in the music space in 2013 after the release of their single “Versace”. The song was remixed by Canadian rapper Drake and peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

In 2015, their debut studio album, Yung Rich Nation, was released and featured guest appearances from Chris Brown and Young Thug, and production from Zaytoven and Murda Beatz. The album peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200.

Takeoff also performed at the 2017 Veld festival.

Migos achieved their first number one single in 2016 with “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of January 21, 2017.

The song has gone on to be certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Migos’s second studio album, Culture, was released on January 27, 2017, debuting at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, moving 131,000 album-equivalent units, including 44,000 copies sold, within its first week of release. The album went on to achieve platinum certification in the country in July 2017.

The group’s second album, Culture II, was released on January 26, 2018. It became Migos’s second album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 199,000 equivalent units, including 38,000 copies sold, in its first week of release.

Controversies

Like every other human being on earth, Takeoff has had a fair share of  controversies.

In April 18, 2015, authorities ended a Migos concert at Georgia Southern University and arrested all three members of the group and several members of their entourage.

According to the performance contract, the group was to be paid $30,000 with their promoter Big House Collective receiving an additional $3,000. University officials initially sought to put Migos in breach of contract due to the group’s late arrival, shortened performance, and possession of contraband on university property; however, the university ultimately paid half of the agreed-upon fees.

On April 20, 2015, Takeoff, Quavo, and six members of their entourage were released on bond by the Bulloch County District Attorney’s Office while Offset and six others remained in custody without bond. As a result of their arrests, on April 28, 2015, Migos announced they would postpone their Yung Rich Nation Tour until July.

Takeoff was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana, an unspecified Schedule II narcotic, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm in a school safety zone.

He was released from jail on bond and later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor marijuana charges.  He however received a 12-month sentence, which was suspended based on payment of fines.

On July 7, 2017, Takeoff was asked to be taken off a flight prior to takeoff from Atlanta to Des Moines, Iowa, after he reportedly refused to move his bag from the floor to an overhead storage bin.

On August 5, 2020, news had it that Takeoff was involved in a civil lawsuit filed by a female victim on charges of “sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence and interference with civil rights” at a June 2020 party in Los Angeles.

As of April 2, 2023, the criminal charges against Takeoff was dropped  by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office for insufficient evidence.

His Personal Life

Takeoff’s personal life is not known. He is however believed to be in a relationship with his level of popularity and wealth in the entertainment space.

The talented rapper was known to have been involved in various legal cases while growing up and in his music career.

His Death

Sadly, Takeoff has met his untimely death on November 1, 2022.

He was allegedly got shot in a bar. “Rip takeoff that was sickening to see that happen to you,” said a tweet that announced his death. He seemed unconcerned with me the entire night; I’m ill. On the evening of November 1, 2022, he passed away.

According to TMZ, Takeoff was shot either in the head or close to it when he was playing dice with Quavo when the incident occured. He was declared deceased on the spot.

Takeoff is presently one of the richest and most influential American rappers with an estimated net worth of over $20 million dollars.
