Stormzy, known by his stage name, has real name as Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. He is a famous award winning British rapper, singer and songwriter known for his Grime, hip hop focused music style.

Stormzy was born July 26, 1993 in Croydon, London. He grew up in South Norwood, London, with his single mother, Abigail Owuo, a Ghanaian, alongside his siblings, a brother and two sisters where he had his elementary and higher education respectively. He never had a substantive relationship with his father, Michael Omari Sr.

He also studied at Stanley Tech South Norwood and did his apprenticeship in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

Stormzy’s Music Career

Stormzy started off as a rapper at the young age of eleven.

Over time, he became professionally known on the UK underground music scene with his series of freestyles.

Stormzy has since developed his passion for music, with influences from the likes of Frank Ocean, Lethal Bizzle, Flirta D, Bruza, Lauryn Hill and others.

In 2014, the talented singer came through with his debut EP, “Dreamers Disease” and teamed up with rapper, Chip and Shalo on the song “I’m Fine”.

In March 2015, Stormzy released the track “Know Me From” while he also performed his single, “Shut Up” at the British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua’s ring-walk for his fight against Dillian Whyte.

Stormzy gained more international recognition after his highly rated collaboration on “Own It” alongside, Ed Sheeran and the Nigerian Afrobeat music star and Grammy Award Winner, Burna Boy.

In April 2016, Stormzy released the single “Scary” after which he had a break from the music scene. He made a comeback with the release of his album, “Gang, Signs & Prayer”, on February 24, 2017.

The said album was a big hit with huge commercial volumes. Gang Signs & Prayer also became the first rap album to win the British album of the Year at Brit Awards.

The young talented music star has not relented in his music career and has continued to dish out exciting tracks like “Crown” and “Sounds of the Skeng” before eventually releasing another hit album, “Heavy is the Head” on December 13, 2019.
