Jacqueline Acheampong is her real name, but widely and professionally known as Gyakie. She is a popularly known talented Ghanaian singer and songwriter who has made big name in Afro-fusion genre of music.

Gyakie was born on December 16, 1998 in Bompso, in Kumasi, Ghana. She originally hails from Abuakwa, another popular town in Kumasi and daughter of Ghanaian music legend, Ernest Owoahene Nana Acheampong.

Her father was a member of the popular band, Lumba Brothers and coming from the family of music background is therefore no surprise to many as Gyakie had long displayed her music skills while growing up.

 

Gyakie’s Educational Background

Gyakie had her primary school education in Kumasi and TI Amass High School both in Ghana respectively.

She later bagged a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science and Technology.

Gyakie’s Music Career

Gyakie’s journey into the music world started at her very young age, when she was a lead vocalist Choir in her local Church in Ghana.

She became professionally known in the Ghanaian music industry in 2019 when she made a debut single, ‘Love Is Pretty’.

The song was a big hit as it received wide airplay on local radio and television stations for a period of time across Ghana and shot Gyakie to international recognition.

In 2020, Gyakie released her debut EP titled ‘SEED’.  The EP was another big success, with a five-track project that showed Gyakie experimenting with different sounds.

Her EP has a combined eleven million streams on major music platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Audio Mack, Boomplay and YouTube respectively.

 

The same year 2020, the talented music star featured a lead artist, Bisa Kdei on her single, Sor Mi Mu. She has since worked with other top African music stars including Elom ‘E.L’ Adablah, Kuvie, Omah Lay and others.

Gyakie has so far released good number of hit songs, including:

Recently, Gyakie made the list of one of the African celebrities in Nigeria’s One Tribe Magazine and Red Bull South Africa. She was a guest on Focus On Africa, produced by BBC.

Gyakie has in the course of her music profession been nominated for good number of awards.

  • She won the Muse Africa Alternative Song of the 2nd Quarter in 2019.
  • 2020 Emerging Woman of the year at 3Music Awards.
  • 2022 Woman of the year at 3 Music Awards.
  • 2022 International Collaboration of the year at Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and several nominations.
