She was born on January 1, 1979 in Benin City to Pa Aigbe as father and Abisola Grace Owodunni as mother. She is the second child in a family of five children.
Mercy had her primary education at St. Francis primary school and Maryland Comprehensive secondary school, Ikeja, Lagos for her first and secondary school certificates respectively.
She later went to Ibadan Polytechnic to have a Diploma in Financial Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos in 2001.

Mercy Aigbe joined the Nigerian Movie Industry professionally in 2006, but not without crossing the huddles. She revealed that patience, determination and her strong passion for acting made her stay and eventually rose to fame and recognition in the industry.
She is creative, skillful and highly talented Nollywood actress gifted in the interpretation of movie roles very well. She is also liberal in accepting any character in most movies and is known to feature mainly in Yoruba movies.

Mercy Aigbe got married to Lanre Gentry, a hotel owner in 2013. The marriage is blessed with two children named Juwon and Michelle Aigbe.
Sadly, the marriage has hit the rock as Aigbe was said to have shared photos of herself physically assaulted by her husband. This eventually put an end to the marriage with her strong campaign against women abuse.
