Tony Akposheri fondly and widely known as Zakky is a veteran award winning Nollywood actor and director and founding father of the Nigerian Movie Industry (Nollywood).
He is of an Urhobo decent with long years of experience in the movie industry.
His Acting Career
Tony Akposheri is one of the strong pillars and very few actors still alive among the pioneers of Nollywood.
Tony began his acting career with stage plays in 1976. He joined NTA and worked briefly and later featured in an NTA television series, ‘Masquerade’ where he played the role of Zakky.
He revealed that the role of Zakky, was like that of a school boy, who was into many other activities. The movie also had the cast of top Nollywood stars like Pete Ene, Nkem Owoh and others.
Tony’s exceptional performance at the time eventually shot him to limelight, and has since become a household name till date with several Nollywood movies to his credit.
In an interview with City People magazine, Tony went down memory lane in his over 40 years in the industry.
In his words, he declared: “Acting is a thing of joy for me. It is the only thing that keeps me going, whether there’s money in it or not, the fact that I am doing it to make some people happy, and when they see me, they congratulate me I really enjoy the feedback I get from people most times. So, all these really make and keep me happy”.
The highly creative and talented Nollywood comic actor encouraged up-coming youths to do what others don’t do, so that they can create their own style that will develop them. His only regret is that the Nigerian government has not given the foremost actors in the industry due recognition.

Zacky was nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award under the Platform of The “Nigerian Golden Leaders and Entrepreneur Awards” held during the “Miss Liberty Nigeria 2020” organized by Tinadels Promotions and Awards Organization and Produced by Eletu Concepts on May 17th, 2020 at Bespoke Event center, Lekki Lagos.
