Ishaya Bako: Biography And Net Worth

Ishaya Bako is a popular Nigerian movie director and screen writer famous for his movie, ‘Fuelling Poverty’.
He was born December 30, 1986 in Kaduna where he had his up-bringing before relocating to London where he had his tertiary education.

Educational Background
Ishaya Bako bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems at Covenant University London Film School in 2010.

His Career
Ishaya relocated to Nigeria upon graduation to contribute his quota to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Bako presented his graduation film, ‘Braids on a Bald Head’ which later won him an award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. It was also screened at the Cambridge Film Festival and the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival in France in February, 2011.
Ishaya Bako won the Best Short Film Awards at the 8th African Movie Academy Awards.

Bako has so far wrote and directed a number of more socially conscious films including ‘Silent Tears‘ and ‘Henna’.
His documentary on ‘Fuelling Poverty’ in 2012 was a response to the fuel subsidy protests in Nigeria. The film which was narrated by Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka attracted the attention of the Nigerian government and was subsequently banned by the Nigerian Censors Board.

In 2015, Bako directed his first feature film ‘Road to Yesterday’, with Nollywood superstar Genevieve Nnaji.
Bako is also popular with his film ‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel’, a movie that was screened at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
Ishaya Bako was also one of the writers for the movie, ‘Lionheart’ in 2018.

He is an emerging voice of his generation and a member of a select few Global Shapers, a collection of enterprising youths initiated by the World Economic Forum.
