Sarkodie, widely known by his stage name, has his birth name as Michael Owusu Addo. He is a popular Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur who has made tremendous contributions to the Ghana’s music industry.

Sarkodie was born July 10, 1988 in Ghana. He is the fourth child of five children in a family. He grew up in Koforidua before his parents moved to Tema.

Sarkodie’s Educational Background

Sarkodie had his elementary and higher education in Tema Methodist Day Senior High School respectively.

He later went to IPMC also in Ghana, where he bagged a degree in Graphic Design.

Sarkodie kick-started his music career as an underground rapper. He later participated in Adom FM’s popular rap competition Kasahare Level where he actually showcased his talents in music.

Aside music, Sarkodie is also a humanitarian. He launched ‘The Sarkodie Foundation’ on July 13, 2013, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged children.

Additionally, he made generous donations to the Royal Seed Home Orphanage in Kasoa, Ghana.

Since its inception, the Foundation embarked on a feed the kids’ campaign in Tema, Ghana, where they provided thousands of kids with bags of rice, yogurt, and beverage cans.

The foundation also supports in the area of giving out school bags, water bottles, hats, and other items to the less priviledged.

Roshi Motman, the CEO of Tigo Telecommunications, was also in attendance to support the campaign.

Sarkodie is also an entrepreneur. The talented Ghanaian rapper and Philanthropist owns the Sark by Yas Clothing line, which was launched on April 27, 2013. The clothing business has high quality accessories for men, women, and children.

In 2012, Sarkodie was officially unveiled as the Brand Ambassador for Samsung Electronics at the University of Ghana, Legon.

As part of the event, Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Pocket and Chief Hero Phones that had customized wallpapers of Sarkodie and his signature; users had the opportunity to download exclusive tracks of Sarkodie.

He also launched the Obidi Chief headphones and signed an endorsement deal with FanMilk Ghana in 2013.

Sarkodie is currently in partnership with Tigo Telecommunications Ghana, a brand that sponsored his 2013 Rapperholic tour.

His other endorsement deals include Standard Chartered Bank – a leading banking firm in Ghana and indeed Africa and Guinness Ghana Limited for their Malt drink product, Ambassador for the Year of Return campaign among others.

The honor was conferred on him at the Creative Arts Industry Forum.

In March 2023, Sarkodie and his little daughter were featured in Ghana’s leading toothpaste brand – Pepsodent Ghana’s #BrushWithMe campaign ad to create awareness among parents and children to embrace day and night brushing of teeth. This was done to commemorate World Oral Health Day.

Sarkodie has in the course of his music career earned numerous awards, most notably as the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade.”

He also emerged the first winner of BET’s Best International Flow Artist at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards.

He is widely adjuged one of the greatest African rappers of all time with his major emphasis on culture.

Sarkodie has been happily married to his lovely wife, Tracy Owusu Addo, also known as Tracy Sarkcess. The private wedding ceremony was held in Tema, Ghana, on 17 July 2018.

They have two kids; a daughter, Adalyn Owusu Addo, and a son; Micheal Nana Yaw Owusu Addo Jnr, named after the famous rapper.
