Onome da Saint has his real name as Francis Onome Okpor. He is a popular Abuja stand-up comedian who has made a big name in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
He hails from Delta State, Nigeria but has lived in Abuja for good number of years where he had his primary and secondary education respectively. Nothing much is known about his educational pursuit.
Onome da Saint’s Career
Onome de Saint started off as a stand-up comedian, dated back to his days in his secondary school.
He revealed he was inspired after watching the first ever Night of a Thousand Laugh in Abuja, where he saw the likes of I go Die, The Don and others.
Onome became professionally known in the business of comedy after a friend of his, Cecilia Egbele of NTAplus invited him to X-strangers maiden edition of Names on Platinum where he did his first official performance in 2005.
Onome’s introduction into comedy shot her to fame and recognition and this eventually opened up many good doors for him.
According to Onome, “they made me feel that everything I was doing then was worth doing well. Comedy had always been a child’s play until the era of Ali Baba. He single-handedly made comedy what it is today”.
Comedy as Onome puts it is a reliever. He added that, there is that joy whenever you talk and you see people laugh, an inner satisfaction and general happiness.
Onome de Saint has so far performed with key players in the industry like Ali Baba, Basket Mouth, Julius Agwu, Akpororo and others with his star of comedy centering around social, economic and political issues bothering mankind.
The current growing hardships in the country calls for ease of tension and most Nigerians take pleasure in watching comedy to douse the tension in them and promote laughter and happiness among all.
Like any other being on earth, comedians are faced with challenges of life. Onome revealed that sometimes, you will be on stage and people will not be moved. “It has happened to me and other comedians on several occasions” he added.
Again, the business of comedy “is tasking, because your brain has to be at work 24hours. And you really have to see humour in anything around you. Sometimes, you don’t have to think, it just comes but, you have to make sure that as you are saying it you don’t hurt somebody. And again, we get lots of materials on a day to day basis”.
Recently, Onome organized a comedy show in Abuja tagged ‘Laff it off with Onome D Saint’, a family comedy show that was full of fun and has been on since 2015. The show was held on June 13 at Sheraton Hotels and Tower, Abuja with top comedians like Gordons, Mc Passion, Edo Pikin, Mr Paul, Apostle Paul, Ghana Must Go, Koboko Master and others in attendance.
