Derrick Oboubie Jnr is his real name, widely and fondly known by his stage name as J.Derobie. He is a fast rising Ghanaian dancehall, Raggae, and Afrobeat singer.

Derobie was born on the 27th of August, 1994 in the Northern Region of Ghana. He hails from Yendi in the Northern Region of Ghana. He later moved to Nungua, in the Accra region of  Ghana, where he spent greater part of his early life and had his elementary and higher education respectively.

J.Derobie is a widely known singer, who sings in English and Patois, gifted in his ability to mix it with Twi, Hausa, Dagbani and Ga.

J Derobie started off as a dancer and later ventured into music at the age of 13.

He was discovered through Mr. Eazi’s Empawa Africa initiative in 2018 when his entry video went viral on social media platform.

On 11th January 2019, Derobie released his first-ever music video, ‘Poverty’, a song which was highly successful and trended on various media platform. The song also received wide local and international recognition.

Within a short time of its release, ‘Poverty’ song made it to number one on iTunes World Chart and the music video made number one on World Reggae Dancehall music videos for three weeks.

The highly successful song also placed J.Derobie on the top table, making him the number ten of the Empawa100 initiative. He was invited to Cape Town, South Africa for a music master class with Empawa Africa and leading stakeholders in the music industry.

The talented Ghanaian music star thereafter did a remix with Jamaican superstar, Popcaan for the hit single, ‘Poverty’.

At a later interview, J Derobie revealed that he was significantly influenced by top music artistes in the likes of Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Mr. Eazi, Stonebwoy, Chronixx, Popcaan, Alkaline, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Masicka and R2bees.

The music Super Stars in turn took to the Internet to appreciate the great work done by J.Derobie on the ‘Poverty’ project and encouraged him to put in more efforts.
