Comedy in Nigeria can now be said to be a profession, as professional standup comedians have made a good living out of it.

Ayodeji Richard Makun is his real name but widely and professionally known by his stage name as A.Y.

He was born in warri Delta state on the 19th of August, 1971. Ay hails from Ifon, Ode Local Government in Ondo State Nigeria. Ayo Makun is the oldest male child from a family of seven children.

Ay’s Educational Background

AY graduated from Delta State University where he read Theatre Arts.

He spent nine years in the University because he chose Theatre Arts over Music while he was already in 300 level in Music.

AY started again from the first year after writing JAMB again without regrets and his decision paid off at the end.

Ay is the first son among seven children and when he lost his parents, the responsibility to fend for himself and other siblings fell solely on him. Thus, the celebrity had to start working early to make ends meet right from college.

AY came into spotlight after being Alibaba Akporobome’s personal assistant and event manager.

He also hosts one of Africa’s largest comedy shows, AY Live featuring other top comedians like Bovi, Helen Paul and many other comedians.

AY has investments spread over some major cities in Nigeria. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Corporate World entertainment, Nigeria.

The gifted comedian and actor also owns a Club house. As an investor in stand-up comedy, he has influenced upcoming comedians through his AY “Open Mic Challenge”.

He is currently working with other top Nollywood actors like Richard Mofe Ademijo and others to produce a movie in the United States of America.
