Ckay is a singer, songwriter and record producer who was born on the 16th of July 1995 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ekweani in the ancient city of Kaduna, in the north west region of Nigeria.

He is of the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, Anambra State, precisely.

 

Ckay’s Educational Background

Ckay completed his Primary & Secondary School Education and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate and also West African Senior School Leaving Certificate in one of the States in Nigeria.

Ckay was introduced to music when he was seven by his father who was a choir conductor at their local church.

As at thirteen years of age, he had started producing beats and writing songs for a Christian music group, apparently doing his musical skills.

While growing up, he was moved by musical instruments which prompted him to learn the piano from his father and today, Ckay is a multi-talented instrumentalist.

Ckay started off his music career as a member of a band, made up of him and two other band mates before beginning his solo career as CKay.

In 2014, Ckay relocated to Lagos to pursue his music career fully. He signed up as a production intern with Loopy Music, giving him the opportunity to work under big-time artiste M.I.

After the merger of Loopy Music with Chocolate City Music and M.I emerging as the new C.E.O, Ckay was signed into the record label. He became the official in-house producer for Chocolate City Music Label.

Ckay is a talented musician who has made tracks in a variety of genres including Afrobeats, R&B and dancehall.

On 11th September 2017, he released his first extended play “Who the Fuck Is CKay?”, through Chocolate City.

On the 2nd of March 2018 he released “Container”, an Afrobeat record influenced by the South African gwara gwara dance style.

The song became a breakthrough record, and earned him substantial airplay in Nigeria. It was released through Chocolate City, and was produced by Tempoe.

On 6th July 2018, Ckay released the music video, directed and shot by the Myth in various locations in Lagos.

In 2019, CKay released the First, “Love Nwantiti” which became a major record in Nigeria.

The talented music star has since released his second extended play, “Ckay the First” on 30th August 2019 through Chocolate City and his third extended play “Boyfriend” on 11th February 2023 through Warner Music South Africa respectively.

On the 4th May 2023, Ckay confirmed on Twitter that he is no longer signed to Chocolate City, but signed to Warner Music South Africa.
