Shatta Wale has his birth name as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. He is a popular Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician, song writer, recording artist and stage performer whose growing popularity and fame have received global recognition.

He was born on October 17, 1984 in Accra Ghana to Mr and Mrs Armah Mensah, his father an astute Politician, businessman and legal practitioner. He hails from the Volta region of Ghana.

Shatta Wale had his education at the Seven Great Princess Academy at Dansoman, a suburb of Accra, Ghana where he developed interest in Arts, which eventually prepared him for the journey into the entertainment world.

Shatta made entry into the Ghana entertainment industry with a movie, “By The Fireside” at the National Theatre of Ghana.

He later ventured into music after his own father introduced him to Jamaican culture by playing reggae records in the house and travelled to London to meet his relatives who were dual citizens of Jamaica.

The development soon made Wale to have a strong passion for music and he became professionally known in music in 2004 when he released his first single, “Moko Hoo”.

The music featured top Ghanaian singers like Tinny and then used his stage name as Bandana.

The music was very successful as it received wide airplay on radio and television across Ghana and earned him nomination at the Ghana Music Awards that year.

Shatta Wale later released another hit songs, “No Problem” and “Obaa Yaa”.

In 2009, he rebranded the name from Bandana to Shatta Wale and since then, he has become a force to reckon with in the Ghanaian music industry.
