Akpororo has his real name as Bowoto Jephthah Oluwatiseyifumi Tanimola. He is a famous Nigerian stand-up comedian, vocalist and actor who hails from Ilaje, Ondo State, Nigeria.

Akpororo was born on February 13, 1989 in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. He grew up in Warri and had his elementary and secondary education respectively.

He later graduated in Sociology from the Lagos State University.

 

Akpororo’s Career

Akpororo began his career as a local gospel artiste in 2008 when he participated in the National Comedy Challenge by Opa Williams. He eventually went on to win the Calabar chapter of the competition which many described as well deserved.

In 2009, Akpororo moved to Lagos and contested twice in the AY’s Open Mic Challenge, coming second in his first attempt and winning the competition in his second try.

In 2013, he rose to popularity at the “Basketmouth’s Laff and Jam” show.

Akpororo has since performed at several comedy shows including “AY Live”. It can be rightly said that AY is Akpororo’s mentor.

On 12 August 2014, Akpororo staged his first major comedy show “Akpororo vs Akpororo” at the Shell Hall, MUSON Centre. The maiden event saw the attendance of notable musical acts and comedians.

 

Akpororo is also a brilliant actor. In 2014, he ventured into acting and starred in movies like Headgone and The Antique. The movies was a huge success and earned him some notable recognition and nominations, including three nominations at the 2015 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards.

His Artistry Work

Akpororo’s unique way of comedy is basically the fusion of circular and church-related jokes. In an interview, he revealed that he performs and cracks jokes about lunatics because he used to attend to mentally disturbed people who came to the church for counselling and  for spiritual healing. He is indeed a fine Nigerian comedian, very creative and talented with his comedy skits centering around social, economic and political issues trending in our society of today.

Endorsement deals

In June 2015, he signed a 2-year endorsement deal with telecommunication giant, Airtel Nigeria.

His Personal Life

He is happily married to his lovely wife, Josephine Ijeoma Abraham. The marriage is blessed with lovely children. The wedding took place in Surulere, Lagos State on  November 14, 2015.

Recently, Akporo granted interview to Saturday Beats and in that interview narrated to the surprise of his fans that he and his wife did not date before marriage.

In his words, the comedian and singer hinted that he had known his wife since she was part of a dance group and shortly after, they began to exchange pleasantries which eventually blossomed into marriage.

“I did not date my wife. We are in the same industry and she was with Explicit Dance Group, we had met on some occasions and greeted each other. We never had any period to date; I would say we started dating after we got married. Although I am a comedian, when I approached her, she took my words seriously because whenever I am serious you would easily know”.

On the issue of comedians seemed to always go for beautiful women, the humour merchant affirmed this but stated it was a coincidence. He said “we work hard and we see beautiful wives, but the truth is that we all love pretty women”.

He however argued that the beauty of a woman is not all that matter but character, being hard-working and a prayer warrior. We just love beautiful women” he concluded.
