Professor Lazarus Edward Nnnanyelu Ekwueme , widely known as Laz Ekwueme is a veteran Nigerian actor, producer, pioneer lecturer of music, musicologist, prolific writer and a multi-talented personality.
He was born on the 28th of January 1936 in Oko community in Anambra state, his original home of birth in south eastern Nigeria.
Laz Educational Background
Laz had his primary education in Oko and Government College, Umuahia in Abia state.
He later went to Royal College of Music in London, United Kingdom where he obtained a Diploma in music.
He went further to have a degree in music in the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. He also obtained the professional teaching Diploma from the Licentitate of Guildhall School of Music.
Laz Ekwueme went further for his post graduate degree in Music Theory from Wale University in the United States of America. He taught music for years in various colleges abroad before returning to Nigeria as a pioneer lecturer in music with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Laz has many publications in poems, puns, proverbs and music lyrics especially the role of music in the lives of Africans and Africans in Diaspora.

Laz Ekwueme began his acting career after joining the Nigerian Movie Industry in the early 1990s, a career he embraced while studying in the University abroad. He became popular after featuring in a hit Nollywood movie “Igodo”. It was a movie that shot him to fame and recognition in Nollywood and made him a public figure.
