August Anthony Alsina Jr. is his real name, but fondly and professionally called August Alsina. He is a famous American singer who has made significant name in the music industry.

He was born on September 3, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA where he had his elementary and higher education respectively.

 

August Alsina’s Music Career

August Alsina began his music career in 2012 when he released his first untitled mixtape, with six acoustic covers premiered in October 2011.

In January, 2013, he released his single, “I Luv This Shit” featuring Trinidad James, which was followed by another mixtape, The Product 2 in May 2013.

The Product was released in April 2012, with the EP Downtown: Life Under the Gun released on August 20, 2013. The video for “Hell on Earth” was released the following month.

August Alsina has made giant strides in his music career with the third single from his EP Downtown: Life Under the Gun, “Ghetto” featuring Rich Homie Quan. The song was a huge success receiving wide airplay on U radio in the week ending December 12, 2013.

January 14 2014, Alsina released another hit album, “Make It Home”, featuring Jeezy, as the lead single from his debut studio album.

The ever hardworking Alsina again worked on his third studio album and January 6, 2017, he came up with several singles, “Drugs”, “Lonely”, “Don’t Matter”.

In June 26, 2020, he released another hit, ‘The Product III: State of Emergency’. Alsina revealed that the album was a chronicle of his struggle in life, his upbringing, tragic loss of his father and sister and eventual success in his career.

On September 21, 2023, he announced that he was “likely” retiring from music.

Alsina who is reputed for R&B, fusing with hip-hop genre of music, revealed that he was greatly influenced by great music stars like Chris Brown, Usher and Lyfe Jennings.

Alsina is formerly signed to Def Jam Recordings.

His Personal Life

August Alsina is not yet married. There was however claims that he was in a relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith which she denied, saying it was not true. Nothing much is known about his relationship.

In 2017, Alsina revealed that he suffers from a severe autoimmune disease that attacks his liver. This illness, he claimed has led to series of his collapse on stage in 2014.

On July 8, 2019, Alsina updated his health scare. In a video he posted to Instagram, the singer explained that he was hospitalized after suffering a loss of mobility. “We’re doing a bunch of tests and they’re saying I have some nerve damage going on throughout my body”, he concluded.
