Pete Edochie, Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) is a veteran actor, seasoned administrator and broadcaster widely regarded as the father of Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood).
He was born on March 7, 1947 in Enugu in south eastern Nigeria.

Pete Edochie had his Primary and Secondary education in Zaria, Kaduna State. He later went to school of Journalism and Television in School of Journalism and Television in England.

His Acting Career
Pete Edochie made entry into Nollywood in the 1980s.
Pete came into movie limelight when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all time best selling novel, “Things Fall Apart”.
The exceptionally creative and talented Nollywood superstar is vast in Igbo and English known for brilliant interpretation of roles in movies.

In 1987, he was appointed a director in Eastern Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation. He performed excellently well and retired from service as a broadcaster in 1988.
He is a successful Nollywood actor with over 200 movies to his credit.
Edochie is said have endorsed Wikimedia movement in Nigeria by featuring in a video to create awareness and the use of Wikipedia among the older generations.

In 2009, Pete was kidnapped and later released by his captors unharmed.
In 2005, Pete Edochie and several other actors like the Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Nkem Owoh, Ramsey Richard Mofe Damijo and other popular actors were said to have received a one year ban from the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria in an allegation of collecting huge sums from producers owing to their A-list celebrity status.
The period of ban actually spelt doom in the Nigerian film industry and the ban had since been lifted and they are back on track in the movie entertainment.

Pete Edochie has been married to Rita Edochie for years with grown up five children, among whom is Yul Edochie, a renowned Nollywood actor and politician. Rita Edochie is also a Nollywood actress.
