Yul Edochie (was born 7 January 1982. Yul Chibuike Daniel Edochie  is a Nigerian actor, film producer, director named after popular Russian actor Yul Brynner. He is from Anambra state Nigeria, the son of Nigerian veteran actor, Pete Edochie. He was bred up both in Lagos and Enugu. He was born into a family of six children and he is the last born.

 

Educational Background

Yul Edochie attended Lillians’ Day Nursery School and Robinson Street Primary School, and his secondary education all in Enugu from 1992 to 1998.

Yul Edochie went on a secondary academic Israelite journey to Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, Uturu , University Secondary School Enugu, Ecumenical Community Secondary School Enugu and New Haven Boys Secondary School Enugu respectively.

He later went to the University of Port Harcourt, where he bagged a Bachelor’s degree of Arts in Dramatic Arts.

 

 

Personal life

Yul Edochie got married to May Aligwe at the early age of 22 and has 2 sons and a daughter.

His Career

He started his Nollywood movie in 2005 in his first film titled “The Exquires” alongside the Late Justus Esiri and Enebeli Elebuwa. He however disappeared from the movie industry for two years and resurfaced in 2007 after featuring alongside Genevieve Nnaji and Desmond Elliot in the movie “Wind Of Glory”.

In 2015, Yul Edochie opened a film academy in Lagos. The Academy was set up according to him, as a result of the dwindling quality and professionalism of upcoming Nigerian actors and actresses. The academy which was meant to train the next generation of Nollywood actors and actresses actually  brought out young talented Nigerians the opportunity to be introduced and performed in the Nigerian Nollywood Industry.

 

Politics

On the 14 of July 2017, Yul Edochie went into politics. He declared his intention run for Governor of Anambra State. This declaration was made in anticipation of a Not Too Young To Run Bill passed by the senate of the federal government of Nigeria and assented to by President Mohammed Buhari.

 

The declaration which was initially opposed by his father Pete Edochie later got his nod and was however made official on the 22nd of August 2017, when he picked up the nomination form of the political party “Democratic Peoples Congress”.

Yul Edochie became the flag bearer and gubernatorial candidate of the party to run for governor of Anambra State.
