Her real name is Aituaje Aina Ebele Vivian Iruobe. Waje is her stage name and is a famous Nigerian singer who was born in Ondo State on the first of September, 1981.
She hails from Sabongida Ora in Edo State Nigeria and the first child of 5 children – 3 boys and 2 girls.
Waje who sings mostly in Igbo language has made wonderful progress in her music career, the reason being that the mother is from Anambra State. She can be rightly described as a dual citizen having an Ibo background from the mother, Yoruba background as her paternal grand mother from Ondo State and her biological father from Edo State of Nigeria.
Career Background
Waje started singing at a very young age when she used to micmic songs using her father’s screw driver as microphone. These hidden talents and creativity were noticed by her mother who to the Glory of God gave her all the encouragements and support to make it in the field of music. Today, Waje is rated one of the best female artistes in Nigeria with a difference.
Educational Background
Waje had her primary and secondary education in the famous Word of Faith Group of schools in Benin City, Edo State Nigeria. While there, she joined Choir and became a rare singer of Word of Faith. Her consistent and brilliant performances earned her “the Whitney Houston” of Word of Faith.
Waje soon became loved by all especially the late Bishop Benson Idahosa who saw her talents and awarded her scholarship from her secondary school to University level.
However, as fate would have it, this dream did not come to pass as her parents divorced making Waje to relocate her mother and other siblings to Eastern part of Nigeria. She later attended the University of Nigeria, Nnsuka, Enugu where she had a degree in Social Works. She was also very active on Campus singing at School shows and fellowships.
Music Career
Waje started singing professionally on Campus. She focused more on her musical career. She also performed in churches and at shows, sometimes for free. She also combined tourism as her part time job.
In 2007, she launched her music career as a student doing most her shows and singing at any given opportunity. She then moved to the next level of popularity when in 2008, she released a hit track –“Do Me”, a track she featured with music stars like P-Square. The debut was adjudged the hottest and most embracing and was widely played in radio and television stations across Nigeria. It also marked the beginning of her elevation to greater height in music career.
She had also collaborated with other star artistes to produce hit songs like M.I’s One Naira, Banky W’s Thief My Kele and Left For Good (released in August, 2015) featuring Patoranking and Godwin Strings.
Waje has also proved herself talented in acting . She featured alongside veterans like Patrick Doyle, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Lepacious Bose on Tunnel, a Nollywood movie in 2014.
She also worked on Strong Girl, the theme song for One Campaign’s program – Poverty is Sexist.
She was appointed a judge on the reality TV show The Voice Nigeria in 2016 alongside Timi Dakolo, 2face Idibia and Patoranking. Waje is a single mother and a very passionate philanthropist.
