Alex Usifo is a veteran Nollywood actor, director, producer, entrepreneur and a rare philanthropist.
He was born on the 16th of April, 1953 in Lagos State to the family of Mr. Barnabas Usifo, a retired CBN staff and Mrs Patricia Usifo as his mother.
Usifo had his normal primary education in Ibadan, Oyo State and later St. John Bosco Grammar School, Ubiaja in Edo State in south southern Nigeria where he obtained his first and secondary school certificates respectively.
After his secondary education, he worked with the National Television Authority (NTA) in Benin. After some years of working experience with NTA, he left for St. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija in Ibadan, Oyo State where he attempted to become a catholic priest.
However, his dream of becoming a Priest was not realized as he dumped his ambition for Diploma in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos. Owing to financial challenges at the time, he was left with no option but to quit but for the encouragement of his friends and department mates. He however summoned up courage and eventually completed his studies.
His Acting Career
Usifo’s journey into acting career was not without huddles of life. With the help of God, he was able to overcome the challenges and joined Nollywood in 1984.
He acted his first television movie “The Return of the Native”, produced and directed by Ray Yusuf for NTA Ilorin. Subsequently, he improved in his talents and took lead roles in “Natas and Two People” in Lagos TV, produced by Baba Fashina.
Usifo starred in a number of television drama series including Echoes of Life, Turning Wheel, At Your Service and eventually rose to popularity after starring in a Soap Opera “Ripples”, a movie directed by the renowned producer Zeb Ejiro.
He worked so hard and became an investor. He set up Silver and Gold productions which later turned out to be a platform of greatness for up-coming models like Raji Toyin and Sandra Petrave and many others in the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
Later in years as he made progress in his acting career, Alex Usifo went back to school. This time, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo State where he graduated in English Language in a second class upper division.
He became more hungry to learn and subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in English and a Doctorate in Babcock University in Information Resources management.
Alex Usifo has featured in over 200 movies some of which are Silent Night, Desperadoes, Dangerous Sisters, Strong Men at Work, Classical Fraud, My Love, Trumpet of Death, Final Point, Who am I, Okoro the Prince and several others. He acts alongside great Nollywood stars like Olu Jacobs, Jibola Adebo, Jim Iyke, Kanayo O Kanayo, Pete Edochie, Ngozi Ezeonu among others.
He is exceptionally creative, talented, gifted in acting and is known to act or play the role of a King, Chief, and wealthy man in most movies. His style of acting, disposition and eloquence in English spoken, marked him out among his counterparts in the industry.
