Adebayo Salami is his birth name but widely known by his stage name as Oga Bello. He is a veteran Nigerian actor, filmmaker, movie producer, director and television personality.
Adebayo was born on the 9th Of May, 1953 in Lagos State but hails from Kwara state. Adebayo had his up-bringing in Lagos State.
His Educational Background
Adebayo had his primary and secondary education in Lagos state for his primary and secondary school certificates respectively. Nothing much is known about his educational background.
Adebayo’s Acting Career
Adebayo began his acting career in 1964, with a group called Young Concert Party, under the leadership of Ojo Ladipo, popularly known as Baba Mero.
Few years later, the group changed its name to Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group, and became known as Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group. The death of Ojo Ladipo in 1978 brought Salami to the mantle of leadership of the group, and eventually shot him to fame and recognition in Nollywood.
He featured in the first Yoruba movie, Ajani Ogun, in which the late Adeyemi Afolayan, the father of Kunle Afolayan and Gabriel Afolayan, played the lead role.
Adebayo also featured in a movie, Kadara by Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade love). He later featured in the popular Nigerian comedy series Comedy half hour with the stage name Oga Bello from which he earned his nickname.
Adebayo Salami is also a producer. He successfully produced his first movie, Ogun Ajaye, in 1985, from the stable of Awada Kerikeri.
