Program Officer- Paediatrics/OVC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as prevention focal point for HALG activities at the Regional Office and ensures compliance with national guidelines for basic Minimum Prevention Package Intervention (MPPI) and behavior change communication (BCC).
  • Represent HALG as requested in meeting with donor representatives, government, partners, sub-grantees, applicants, and the public as required especially regarding paediatrics and OVC interventions.
  • With support from the Care and Support Officer, establish a coordination mechanism between OVC partners and the KP CARE 1 program for proper service delivery for OVC.
  • Strengthen linkages between the KP OVC and household to OVC services from OVC partners and the KP CARE 1 program.
  • Develop KP OVC services trajectory for comprehensive service map for KP OVC and Household for service uptake from KP CARE 1 program and OVC partners.
  • Map and provide a comprehensive list of Traditional Birth Attendants for service integration for KPOVC between OVC partners and KP CARE 1.
  • Create a safe space for young vulnerable KPs living with HIV for the provision of Sexual and Reproductive Health services.
  • Establish and strengthen the referral system for KP OVC and households.
  • Conduct a Capacity building session for OVC linkage officers on identification/case identification and linkage of KP OVC to services.
  • Develop tools for tracking service uptake of KP OVCs and households.
  • Harmonize OVC needs assessment tool to reflect KP OVC and household.
  • Liaise and consult regularly with the relevant local authorities, community leaders, civil society/non-governmental, organizations, collaborating/implementing partners.
  • Any other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • First degree in social science, public health or another relevant discipline.
  • At least three years’ experience in international development, experience working in an HIV prevention and care program will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated skills in training and capacity building through technical assistance and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender responsive programming.
  • Willingness to travel within Nigeria.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with government and civil society partners and communities as well as transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through workshops, training and meetings using participatory methods and adult learning principles.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Local Language preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in public speaking.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems, Power Point.
  • Other software routinely used by Heartland Alliance.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The employee will be required to co-locate with local partners usually in the same office.
  • The employee is required to travel regularly to often insecure and limited resource environments.
