Quavo has his real name as Quavious Keyate Marshall. He is a popularly known American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and co-founder and current frontman of hip hop trio Migos.

Quavo is the uncle of fellow Migos member Takeoff and cousin of Offset.

He was born on April 2, 1991 in Athens, Georgia, United States of America. Edna Marshall is his mother’s name, but there is no record of who his father is. The three members of Migos are directly related and were raised together by Quavo’s mother in Gwinnett County, a mostly suburban area half an hour northeast of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

 

Quavo’s Educational Background

Quavo attended Berkmar High School and was the starting quarterback of its football team during the 2009 season, his senior year.

Despite finishing the football season for his senior year, Quavo dropped out of Berkmar months before graduation.

In May 2020, Quavo announced on his Instagram account that he had graduated from high school after dropping out 11 years earlier.

Quavo’s Music Career

Quavo kick-started his music career when he formed a musical group known as Migos in 2008, alongside fellow rappers Takeoff and Offset.

The group released their first full-length project, a mixtape entitled Juug Season, on August 25, 2011. This was followed by another mixtape, ‘No Label’ on June 1, 2012.

In 2013, Migos rose to fame after the release of their single titled Versace. The song was a huge success, remixed by a Canadian rapper called Drake, which peaked at number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Quavo released his first lead single as a solo artist with the song titled Champions, featuring several other artists. The song peaked at number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After the success of Migos‘ second studio album called Culture, Quavo was subsequently featured on several popular songs including “Congratulations”, “I’m the One”, “Portland” and “No Brainer”.

In an interview with GQ, Houston-based rapper Travis Scott, with whom Quavo previously worked with on the Young Thug collaboration “Pick Up the Phone”, revealed he had a collaborative album with Quavo in the works.

In April 2017, Quavo was featured on The Fate of the Furious: The Album on the song “Go Off” with Lil Uzi Vert and Travis Scott. The song was eventually certified Gold by the RIAA.

Quavo also released “Ice Tray” with Lil Yachty on December 14, 2017. The song peaked at number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100.

December 21, 2017, Quavo publicly announced that he would release a song titled Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho with the renowned Travis Scott on December 22, 2017, without any prior promotion. The album contained eight songs that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Migos, on January 26, 2018, released a song titled Culture II. Then Quavo, to the delight of his fans, released three singles for his upcoming debut solo album; Lamb Talk, Workin Me, and Bubble Gum. His song Workin Me peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest-charting single as a solo artist.

On May 18, 2019, the renowned American rapper performed Future opposite Madonna at the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

  • In 2017, he won the Teen Choice Awards Choice for Electronic/Dance Song for his song titled Know No Betterwith Major Lazer, Travis Scott, and Camila Cabello.
  • Quavo also won the Choice R&B Hip Hop Song of the year at the American Music Awards.
  • Favourite Song, Rap Hip Hop Awards at the American Music Awards and several nominations, including Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
  • At the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, he won a nomination for Best Pop Video for his video titled Intentionswith Justin Bieber.

His Personal Life

Quavo is not yet married, but was said to have ventured into series of relationship. He dated a beautiful lady called Karrueche Tran in 2017.

He also dated a lady known as Saweetie in September 2018. On March 19, 2023, Saweetie disclosed on social media platform that she and Quavo were no longer in a relationship. She also added on social media that Quavo had been unfaithful.

In late March 2023, video footage surfaced showing the duo in a physical altercation that allegedly happened in 2020.

Quavo has in the past engaged Nykkia Harris (2014), Saweetie (2018-2023), Bernice Burgos (2017-2018), Iggy Azalea (2017), Karrueche Tran (2016-2017), Lira Galore (2016-2017), and Chinese Kitty (2014-2015) respectively.

Controversies

Like every other human being on earth, Quavo has had a fair share of controversies.

In April 18, 2015, authorities ended a Migos concert at Georgia Southern University and arrested all three members of the group and several members of their entourage.

Quavo was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana, an unspecified Schedule II narcotic, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm in a school safety zone.

He was released from jail on bond and later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor marijuana charges.  He however received a 12-month sentence, which was suspended based on payment of fines.

In December 2020, Quavo was sued for his alleged involvement in the assault of a limo driver earlier in July 2023.
