Gospel Singer Tope Alabi: Biography, Songs, Marriage And Net Worth

Tope Alabi, also fondly called Ore ti O and Agbo Jesu, is a popular Nigerian Yoruba gospel singer, film music composer and actress who has made tremendous impact to the gospel music industry.

She was born on October 27, 1970 in Lagos State to the family of Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi. Tope is the only daughter in a family of three children and she hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State, Nigeria.

 

Educational Background

Tope had her primary education in Ibadan. She later attended Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Ibadan, 1986 and Polytechnic Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in 1990.

Tope Alabi’s Career

Tope Alabi began her career as a member of the Jesters International Comedy Group.

Tope  has since worked with other popular traveling and stage theater groups in Ibadan and Lagos where she had the bulk of experience and skills in entertainment career making soundtracks for movie productions.

Tope Alabi has also made films in the Yoruba film genre. She later ventured into gospel music after she became a born-again Christian.

She has so far dominated the Yoruba gospel music industry through her brilliant songs, singing the word of God and winning souls with her style of music.

Prior to that, she had released two albums – Ikoko Dudu and Baba Iwo la k’epe.

May 21, 2019, Tope Alabi was on Twitter, voted Queen of Yoruba language during the competition organized by United Bank for Africa (UBA) to mark their 70th Anniversary of existence.

Tope Alabi and her husband Soji run a music label, Tope Alabi Gospel Vibes. Under this label, they organise events and concerts where a lot of people come to worship God. One of the worship concerts is the annual Praise The Almighty Concert.

Tope is a humanitarian. She established the Mardebra Comforter Foundation, a subsidiary of the Gospel Vibes, where she caters for orphans and the less privileged.

Tope has so been nominated for several awards, most notably as:

  • 2015 Gospel Artiste of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards.
  • Best Soundtrack Artiste of the Year at the City People Movies Awards.
  • 2016 Proclamation Award at the New York State Senate,.
  • Recipient of  an Award presented by Gospel Promotion Outreach, Orioke Baba Abiye Ede.

 

Her Private Life

Tope Alabi is happily married to Soji Alabi who is also her manager and producer and the union is blessed with four children. They had been together since 1998  before they finally got married on November 16th, 2000.

At a later interview, she revealed that her husband was the one that actually led her to Christ after he perceived God wanted to use her in the music industry.
