Emeka Ejechi is his birth name, widely and professionally known as Hotyce. He is a fast-upcoming Nigerian rapper and songwriter presently based in Lagos.

Hotyce was born on November 19, in the 90s in Lagos State but grew up in Abuja, Nigeria where he did his elementary and secondary education respectively.

He is currently in his 20s from Kwale community in Delta State of Nigeria and the last born in a family of six children.

 

Hotyce’s Educational Background

Hotyce had his primary and secondary education in Abuja.

He went further to bag a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Abuja in 2016.

Growing up, he was influenced by musical acts such as Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Sade Adu, Nas, Fela Kuti.

Hotyce’s Music Career

Hotyce kick-started his music career dated back to his days at secondary school when he used to rap the songs of his favourite music artists like Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Nas and others.

In 2015, he emerged winner of ‘16 Bars‘, an underground rap battle league in Abuja.

Over time, he built on his talents and soon enough started writing his own songs, promoting himself and doing a freestyle rap session every Friday night on his Instagram Live. He called it Friday Night Massacre and did this consistently from 2017 to 2018.

Hotyce made a major break professionally with the release of the rap single, 10 O’Clock In VGC. The song earned him the popularity among rap fans. The song also peaked several music charts in Africa and received wide airplay across radio and television stations in the country.

At a later interview, the brilliant Nigerian singer and rapper revealed that he got the inspiration for the single while on a trip from Abuja to Lagos.

Hotyce eventually released in debut studio album in 2019. He titled it RedHOTYCECold Vol 1. The album which is made up of a 10-track project, received collaborations from artists like Jesse Jagz, MI Abaga, Waje.

The Vol 2 had long been perfected.

In June 2019, he went controversial after he took to his social media handles to criticize some Nigerian rappers. He said that they ought not to be considered rappers because they couldn’t even deliver a ‘decent 16’ in their rap songs.

The talented singer and rapper has since released good numbers including the singles, Dirty And Red Light, featuring Jesse Jagz on the tracks. Other hit songs released by Hotyce are:

The hit single, ‘We Don’t Do That Over Here’ got a nomination at the Headies Awards in 2018 for the category of Best Rap Single.
