Nollywood Actors And Actresses That Died In 2022.

The Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) has remained one of the biggest in the world, with top talented actors and actresses.

Sadly, the industry has recorded deaths of old and young talents in the year 2022. So far, we have seen about seven of them who have died whose immense contributions and actions will be missed forever.

In this post, we are bringing you the names of the actors and actresses who have gone to meet their ancestors in the year 2022. This is however not in accordance with their dates of death from first to the last.

The names of the dead celebrities include:

  1. Shade Akintalor (Oluweri)

Shade Akintalor, widely and professionally known as Oluweri Magbojo is a Yoruba actress whose sad event took place took place on March 1, 2022 in London at the young age of 59.

The news of her death was revealed by her family members. The cause of her death was however not announced.

Shade was until her death, was a great Yoruba actress whose dramatic style of makeup and curvy brows turned out to be her trademark and dominated Nollywood. The talented movie star would be greatly missed by her numerous fans and close associates as she would be remembered for her movie, ‘Oluweri Mabo Ojo’, a movie that earned her the nickname (Oluweri).

2. Dejo Tunfulu

Dejo Tunfulu, with the real name Mac-Adetokunbo is another veteran Yoruba actor that died in April 1, 2022.

Dejo was a famous comic actor, script writer and movie producer whose prowess dominated the movie scene.

He kick-started his acting career at a very age when he starred in a television series, ‘Theatre Omode’ and later featured in a movie, ‘Aje nilya mi’ where he played the role of Dejo where he earned his nickname.

Dejo later joined Akuko Gagara Theatre Group and Kolawole International Theatre Group. Since his first tv appearance in 1987 in a popular drama series, ‘Apere Ijongbon’ by Kolawole International Theatre Group, he had acted in several movies including a hit Yoruba popular movie, ‘Omo Oran’, featuring the renowned actor Fatai Adetayo (Lalude).

He was aged 49 and until his death was a prolific actor with several Nollywood movies to his credit.

His acting career was influenced by top movie actors like Fausat Balogun (Madam Saje) and Kayode Olasehinde (Baba Ajirebi) who were his close associates in the industry.

  1. Lari Williams

Lari Williams is another Nollywood actor, also of Yoruba decent who died in February 28, 2022. He was aged 81.

Lari had his education at the popular CMS Grammar School, Lagos.

The veteran was the first Nigerian actor to perform on top of Zuma Rock in Abuja Nigeria where he brilliantly performed Maman Vatsa’s poem, ‘The Bird That Sings In The Rain’.

Lari Williams also featured in Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s first Soap Opera and one of the few casts in Nollywood earliest movie, ‘The Witch Doctor’.

Lari Williams would be greatly missed by his friends, associates and the academic community at large having taught in three Nigerian Universities namely – University of Lagos, University of Calabar and the Lagos State University.

  1. Chinedu Bernard

Chinedu Bernard also made the list of Nollywood actors and actresses that died in 2022.

The beautiful Nollywood actress who hails from Enugu, Nigeria was reported to have slumped and died while cleaning the Chapel of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Enugu on April 29, 2022.

The brilliant young and exceptionally talented Nollywood superstar was in her mid 20s at her death. She would be remembered for her stunning roles in several Nollywood movies including, Just A Wish, Money Forever, Who Runs The City, Love Without Conscience, The Regret and many others.

  1. Tafa Oloyode

Tafa Oloyode, known then by his stage name, had his birth name as John Adewuni Adewoye. His death occurred on February 2022 at 69 years old.

He was born November 19, 1952 and was to clock 70 in November 2022.

Tafa kick-started his acting career in 1974 under the tutelage of Oyin Adejobi of the blessed memory.

Tafa was one of the foremost actors in Nigeria with good number of movies to his name, including ‘Ekuro Oloja’, ‘Orogun’, ‘Akanji’ Oniposi’, Jaiyesimi and many others.

 

  1. Romanus Amuta (Natty)

Romanus Amuta also made the list of Nollywood actors and actresses that died in 2022.

He died on February 10, 2022 at the age of 79 after battling a protracted illness.

Romanus would be greatly remembered for his role as Natty in the popular 80’s sitcom, ‘New Masquerade’.


7. Ada Ameh.

Ada Ameh was a Nigerian actress, producer, comedian and television personality.

She was born on the 15th of May, the year of her birth not known in Lagos state. She had her up-bringing in a Naval Barracks, Ajegunle area of Lagos state. She hails from Idoma in Benue state.

She joined Nollywood in 1995 and rose to limelight after playing a lead role in a hit movie “Domitila”. It was a movie produced and directed by the renowned Nollywood producer, Zeb Ejiro.

She was a indeed a talent, gifted in speaking Ibibio, Yoruba, English and little of Igbo languages which made her an exceptionally unique actress.

Ada Ameh was also a recipient of several awards with over 100 Nollywood movies before her untimely death in 2022.

 

8. Sola Onayiga

Veteran Sola Onayiga is well remembered for her portrayal of Ireti in the venerable TV series “Fuji House of Commotion,” in which she “tortured” her family with her domineering culinary prowess She died on July 18, 2022. Until her death, she was an icon who will be greatly remembered for TV series ‘Fuji House of Commotion’.

 

In summary, the death of these veteran Nollywood actors and actresses in 2022 will not be forgotten. They will continue to be remembered and celebrated for their invaluable contributions to the birth, growth and development to the Nigerian movie industry.
