Mthokozisi Khathi is his real name, but widely and professionally known as DJ Tira. He is a professionally known talented South African disc jockey, singer, songwriter and record producer who has made a big name in the entertainment industry.

He was born on August 24, 1976. DJ Tira hails from KwaHlabisa, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

 

DJ Tira’s Educational Background

DJ Tira had his high school education at Mlokothwa High School. He later graduated in Human Resources from the University of Kwazulu-Natal both in South Africa.

Upon graduation, Tira made a full career in Disk Jockey.

DJ Tira kick-started his career as DJ dated back to his days in the University when he used to perform as DJ at various events.

He later on performed with the Tzozo musical group, before he formed his own musical group called the Durban’s Finest with another DJ named DJ Sox, a subsidiary of the Kalawa Jazmee Records.

DJ Tira became professionally known when he signed under Oskido. Oskido, the first to give DJ Tira a record label deal and since then, has dominated the entertainment space in South Africa.

DJ Tira has a fine look, versatile and exceptionally creative and talented.

In 2007, DJ Tira launched his own recording studio, named studio, Afrotainment. He thereafter launched the studio and signed under DJ Cndo as the first artist on his record label.

In the year 2008, DJ Tira made a debut as a featured artist in music tracks.

In March 2019, the talented DJ released a hit single, “Amachankura” featuring TNS. The song was released as the lead single from an upcoming studio album.

In July 2019, the second single “Thank You Mr DJ” featuring Joocy was released.

Tira released Ikhenani on September 13, 2019. Ikhenani won Best Kwaito Album at the 26th ceremony of South African Music Awards.

On August 24, 2020, DJ Tira released his fourth studio album 21 Years of DJ Tira in South Africa, celebrating a 21 years in music industry. The album was certified platinum by the Recording industry of South Africa (RiSA).

In March 2023, he co-hosted season 6 of the SABC 1 talent show competition, 1’s and 2’s.

DJ Tira is happily married to his lovely wife, Gugu Khathi and they are blessed with three children named Junior, Chase and Chichi Khathi.
