Asa has her real name as Bukola Elemide. She is a popularly known  Nigerian, born in France musician, songwriter and  recording artist, famous for her melodious songs with her guitar.

Her style of music is a mix of Pop, Jazz as well as Indie Pop.

Asa was born September 17, 1982 in Sign Virgo, Paris. Her parents hail from Ogun State, Nigeria. At the time of her birth, her parents were studying cinematography in France. She is the only female child in a family of 4 children. Asa had her upbringing in Lagos State when her family relocated to Nigeria at a very young age of two.

Asa’s father played a significant role in her music career as a cinematographer, haven built records of great artistes for her, featuring American, Nigerian and African soul classics like Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, King Sunny Adé, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, and Miriam Makeba, which of course were  Asa’ source of inspiration.

Asa met one Janet Nwose, her manager and friend in 2004 and since then, her life has not remained the same. She introduced her to Cobhams Asuquo, who in turn became the producer of her first studio album Asa (Asha).

Aṣa released her first single, “Eyé Adaba,” which received wide airplay. She thereafter signed to Naïve Records.

The highly talented music star collaborated with Asuquo, and with the new involvement of Christophe Dupouy and Benjamin Constant, she produced her first platinum-selling self-titled album, Aṣa.

The release of the album was a huge success and a major boost for the young singer, charting radio and television stations across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The major break earned her the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008 when she was voted the best fresh talent of 10 singers or groups by a jury of 19 music-industry specialists in Paris.

Asa went ahead to release her second album, “Beautiful Imperfection”, in collaboration with French composer Nicolas Mollard, on 25 October 2010. The song also went platinum in 2011.

The lead single from Beautiful Imperfection, titled “Be My Man”, was released in late September 2010. It was reported that by 2014, Aṣa sold over 400,000 albums worldwide.

Asa’s third studio album, Bed of Stone, was released in August 2014. The singles are “Dead Again”, “Eyo”, “Satan Be Gone”, “The One That Never Comes” and “Moving On”.

Asa has since remained a force to reckon with in the music space. She went on a world tour from 2015 to 2017.

On 14 May 2019, Asa released a new single titled, “The Beginning” and on 25 June 2019, she released the single, “Good Thing”.

On 11 September 2019, she announced on her Twitter page that her new album, ‘Lucid’, will be released on 11 October 2019, which of course came to pass.

She released yet another album on 25 February 2022 titled, “V” featuring the likes of Wizkid, Nigerian highlife duo, The Cavemen and Ghanaian artist Amaarae.

Aṣa’s discography showcases her evolution as an artist, with each album contributing to her growing success. Her studio albums include:
