He was born September 30, 1974. He is of Igbomina-Yoruba descent from Kwara state, the son of a renowned theatre and movie director, Ade Love.
Kunle is a graduate of economics. He also had training at the New York Film Academy.
His Acting Career
Kunle worked briefly in a bank while doing some casual acting, before deciding to move into full-time movie making.
He joined Nollywood since 2005 and has remained active and relevant in the Nigerian film industry.

Kunle is creative and highly talented Nollywood actor gifted in the interpretation of roles in movies. He is also known to take any character liberally given to him and he does this very well to the admiration of his numerous fans. He acts in both Yoruba and English languages.
The movie, ‘Figurine’ was very successful and won five major awards in the African Movie Academy.
Kunle Afolayan also appeared at the Subversive Film Festival in 2011 where he represented Nigerian movie industry, widely acclaimed to be the world’s second largest, with his colleague Zeb Ejiro in 2009.
In May 2013, Phone Swap premiered in France at the first edition of Nollywood Week Paris and won the Public Choice Award.
On 6 April 2015, Afolayan posted a tweet which implied that Igbos were the majority group behind copyright infringement in Nigeria. This allegation sparked off bitterness among the Ibos who claimed it was a deliberate move to discredit and relegate them to the background.
Afolayan however apologized saying he was only concerned about the piracy of his movies, and most especially threats on the potential release of unlicensed copies of October 1, his latest film at the time.
Afolayan is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Golden Effects Pictures, a Nigerian film and production company incorporated in 2005.

Kunle is happily married to Tolu and the union is blessed with four children. He is currently doing very well in the movie industry.
